Trescothick Boost

Saturday, July 26 2003

England's opener Marcus Trescothick today said that the broken finger he sustained yesterday while fielding is unlikely to stop him batting against South Africa in the first Test.

Marcus Trescothick said "Hopefully I'll bat, I have been in the nets all morning and it's pretty sore.

It was a very innocuous ball, but that is the way it happens sometimes. It just hit me wrong and it chipped the top of the knuckle."

The news will be a major boost to the England camp, who will be looking at a massive first innings score after the South Africans made it to 398/1 at the end of day 1.
