Tudor & Surrey Part Company
Wednesday, September 29 2004Former England bowler Alex Tudor has been released by Surrey a year early from his contract.
The 26-year-old has been struggling with a side injury and only featured in one Championship match in the 2004 campaign where he took 4/118 in his 22 overs in the match.
Surrey chief executive Paul Sheldon said: "Alex has been a wonderful servant to the club over the past 10 seasons and we wish him all the best."
Tudor said he was sad to leave but was hoping to be fit enough to resume his career elsewhere. He said: "I have recently seen a specialist who has diagnosed my injury and we are both confident that I can regain my fitness in the next six months."
So far in his career Tudor has played 67 first class matches for Surrey, scoring 1543 runs and taking 211 wickets, undoubtedly the figures would have been so much higher had injuries not bighted his career constantly.
However while injuries have been frequent not all of them appear to have been serious and the former England captain Nasser Hussian once said that he felt Tudor didn't seem interested in playing the game, hopefully a fresh start with a new county will see Tudor regaining some of his old form and making an impact in the County circuit again for all the right reasons.
