West Indians v Sri Lanka A : Day 3

Tuesday, July 20 2004

Shivnarine Chanderpaul finally found some form on tour as the West Indies opted for batting practice on the final day of their match against Sri Lanka 'A'. Chanderpaul scored 100 not out from 145 balls of a total of 283/5 declared by the visitors.

Earlier Tino Best wrapped up the Sri Lankan tail after some resistence from Jaywardene (48 not out). He ended with figures of 4/47. Dwayne Bravo also took a wicket to end 2/38 and Sri Lanka 'A' were all out for 346, trailing by 188 on first innings.

Even with such a massive lead in the bag, captain Sarwan decided not to give his bowlers a bit more tuning ahead of the first Test on Thursday. Instead he looked to bat to the close and saw Sylvester Joseph (68) and Dwayne Smith (37) contribute some runs. Sarwan himself made only 3, Devon Smith made 15 and Dwayne Bravo was caught and bowled for 7.

Omari Banks was unbeaten with Chanderpaul at the close, having scored 29 from 34 balls with 5 fours and a six.

Seamer Mirando claimed 3 for 51 and Perera took 2 for 67.
