Durham beat leaders in D2
Monday, July 19 2004TOTESPORT DIVISION 2
18TH JUNE 2004
Sussex 185 (Goodwin 38, Moss 3 for 47)
Derbyshire 166 (Hassan Adnan 51, Davis 4 for 40)
In a rain affected game, Sussex’s score looked inadequate, with only Goodwin passing 30. After slumping to 44 for 4, Hassan Adnan and Welch seemed to be taking the home side to victory with a 100 run partnership. However, both were run out and the tail folded to give Sussex a rare win by 10 runs, under Duckworth/Lewis.
Middlesex 191 for 6 (Joyce 70*, Dalrymple 58, Killeen 2 for 25)
Durham 193 for 9 (North 59, Breese 52*, Betts 2 for 26, Weekes 2 for 29)
Durham crept home on the fifth ball of the final over to stay in contention for a promotion place. Middlesex’s total was something of a recovery after losing four early wickets, but still looked very achievable. Durham started well but a flurry of wickets left them at 120 for 6 and struggling. Cometh the hour, cometh Gareth Breese, and, not for the first time this season, he saw them home. Just. However, Middlesex remain 10 points clear at the top due to Yorkshire’s C&G semi-final.
