Day Five

Barbados defeated the Windwards chasing down 127 whilst Guyana succumbed to defeat for the first time in three matches due the batting of Runako Morton.

Guyana vs. Leeward Islands
Albion, Guyana

Toss: Leeward Islands

Early wickets for Elsroy Powell of the Leewards saw Guyana at 31/2, then it was 35/3 when Chattergoon was Wilden Cornwall's first of five victims on the day. The hero of the day before, Chanderpaul (32) and Deonarine (51) rebuilt with a 58-run stand.

Upon Chanderpaul's demise, Lennox Cush (42) came to the wicket and partnered Deonarine for 64 more runs. Wickets fell cheaply when they were separated and the Guyanese batsmen had to settle for 199 all out in exactly 50 overs. Left-handed Narsingh Deonarine's half-century took 72 balls in total. He was ultimately a wicket for Cornwall, who gained with fantastic figures of 10-0-36-5. Tonito Willett (3/33) and Elsroy Powell (2/31) were also steady contributors.

Looking for 200 to win, Alex Adams (10) was out to King at 27/1 and Sylvester Joseph's poor tournament continued when he also fell to King for 1 - 41/2. The exciting Austin Richards, batting at #2, was impressive in compiling his first half-century of the tournament. At 50, the young man was bowled by McGarrell, but Morton (with whom he'd added 48 runs) stuck around.

Captain Stuart Williams (16), Wilden Cornwall (13) and Tonito Willett (14) partnered Morton in stints, but failed to stick about. As it was, they did enough, for Morton scored an unbeaten 74 in poor physical condtion (stomach ailment) to see the game home in the final over.

Guyana innings 199 all out (50 overs)
Narsingh Deonarine 51, Lennox Cush 42, Shivnarine Chanderpaul 32
Wilden Cornwall 5/36 (10), Tonito Willett 3/33 (8), Elsroy Powell 2/31 (9)

Leeward Islands innings 200/5 (49.1 overs)
Runako Morton 74 not out, Austin Richards 50
Reon King 2/45 (10)

Result: Leewards won by 5 wickets
Points: Lee 4, Guy 0

Windward Islands vs. Barbados
Georgetown, Guyana

Toss: Windward Islands

It was not long after the start of the game when Windwards' skipper, Rawl Lewis would have realized he may have made the wrong decision in batting first. Indeed, Junior Murray and Craig Emmanuel both registered ducks and John Eugene managed just 8, as the score slipped to 22/3.

Devon Smith hung in at the top and managed a far and away top score of 64 (124 balls) in a total of 127 all out in 47.3 overs. The left-arm spinners, Suleiman Benn (3/29) and Ryan Hinds (2/20) accounted for a fair amount of damage, but it was Pedro Collins' early burst that started everything. The West Indies strike bowler ended with 3/20 from his 10 overs.

After Martin Nurse (4) was early out to Deighton Butler, discarded Windies opener Sherwin Campbell (28) and the out-of-form Dwayne Smith (28) built back to a Bajan advantage with contrasting styles of play. Smith's 28 took 30 balls to record and included a six and 3 fours, whilst Campbell saw 81 balls with 2 fours for his.

When Smith was out, caught of Butler, Ryan Hinds took his guard and topscored for Barbados with 34. Both he and Reifer (11) were out to Kenroy Peters, but captain Courtney Browne (13 not out) and allrounder Antonio Mayers (3 not out) sealed the deal at 129/5.

Windward Islands innings 127 all out (47.3 overs)
Devon Smith 64
Pedro Collins 3/20 (10), Suleiman Benn 3/29 (8.3), Ryan Hinds 2/20 (8)

Barbados innings 129/5 (37.1 overs)

Kenroy Peters 2/23 (9), Deighton Butler 2/28 (8)

Result: Barbados won by 5 wickets
