Match drawn: Rain Ruins Day 5
Monday, October 18 2004Heavy rain has extinguished any hope of victory for either side as day 5 of the Australia - India test was abandoned causing a draw.
The strong showers which had pounded the MA Chidambaram Stadium all night were followed up by a steady drizzle, all but ensuring that no play would take place for the remainder of the day.
Shortly after the scheduled lunch break, everyone’s worst fears were confirmed as the umpires - Rudi Koertzen and David Shepherd - inspected the pitch and decided that no further play would take place, bringing a disappointing end to a day that had promised so much.
Both sides were still in with a good chance of victory, with India 0/19 chasing a challenging total of 229 on a deteriorating pitch.
The draw means that Australia will carry their one – nil lead in the series into the 3rd test to be played in Nagpur on the 26th of October.
