Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire v Leicestershire (Day 2)

Fine innings from Chris Read and Paul Franks allowed Notts to make the most of their good start, and the finished only 10 runs short of 500. After Darren Maddy had provided a decent start to their innings, Leicestershire folded in quite horrid fashion, possibly still suffering their Twenty20 celebrations. Mark Ealham enjoyed himself hugely to claim four cheap wickets, and Paul Franks also enjoyed a productive afternoon. Much more of this and the game will be over by close of play tomorrow.

Nottinghamshire 490
Hussey 140, Warren 135*, Gallian 66, Read 62, Franks 57*, Gibson 4 for 106 Leicestershire 142 for 7
Maddy 51, Ealham 4 for 13, Franks 2 for 27

Southampton: Hampshire v Glamorgan (Day 2)

In this vital clash between second and third, Darren Thomas had a day to remember. First, he claimed three quick wickets to keep the hosts' total within reach. Then, after Dimitri Mascarenhas had taken three wickets to reduce Glamorgan to 72 for 4, he plundered 105* from only 122 deliveries. Mike Powell has stayed with him, and the match is intriguingly poised. With so much hanging on this game, it could be a classic.

Hampshire 369
Brown 90, Kenway 64, Thomas 4 for 105, Croft 3 for 73
Glamorgan 257 for 4
Thomas 105*, Powell 62*, Mascarenhas 3 for 55

Headingley: Yorkshire v Derbyshire (Day 1)

Only 60 overs were possible because of the foul weather, but Yorkshire made good use of the time allowed. They can't afford any more slips if they are to remain in contention, and Matt Wood's unbeaten hundred, ably supported by Anthony McGrath, ensured that they were well on top by close of play.

Yorkshire 225 for 1
Wood 100*, McGrath 89*
