Tendulkar’s Injury Woes

Wednesday, October 13 2004

The Indian team has today confirmed the news that star batsman Sachin Tendulkar will miss tomorrow’s second test against Australia.

Tendulkar, 31, has been suffering from a tennis elbow injury for over 7 weeks now. Of late, there has been much speculation that he is not recovering at a fast enough rate and that he may end up missing the entire Australia - India series.

Orthopaedic specialist, Dr Premchand Khincha, commented on the state of his injury saying, "He is still feeling the pain while driving the ball and the injury still persists,"
He also added, “Normally, it takes about six weeks to three months to recover from a tennis elbow, but in the case of a person involved in heavy physical activity, such as Tendulkar, recovery could take longer."

The master batsman conceded that he would have to bide his time and nurture his injury before making a return, saying, "If I try to rush into playing early there could be a repeat injury because the muscle is not strong enough to take the pressure of batting. When there is strength, I can start practising."

The second test starts on October 14 in Chennai.
