Lawson out, Sammy in for WI
Sunday, August 29 2004Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson has been pulled out of the West Indies Champions Trophy squad which will compete in England in September. Lawson (22), already having experienced injury and questions of his bowling action, suffers another blow with a stress fracture of the lower back.
His replacement will be St. Lucian allrounder Darren Sammy, who went to England for the Natwest Trophy earlier this year, but did not feature in any games. His expected debut was a complete washout against New Zealand. The 20 year-old has scored 211 List-A OD runs at an average of 23.44 and has taken 16 wickets at 25.87.
