Reid Rejoins Indian Ranks

Former Australian fast bowler, Bruce Reid, has joined the Indian team in Trent Bridge, being recalled after his success with the team earlier in the year on the tour of Australia. Captain Sourav Ganguly will be hoping that Reid’s bowling expertise will help them regain some form ahead of the upcoming NatWest Challenge against England and ICC Champions Trophy.

Reid, who played 27 tests for Australia before back problems ended in his career, was quick to focus his attention upon the Indian attack, putting the youngsters Irfan Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji to the test. "Irfan is okay but Balaji has tried out a few things. They are very young and have got enormous talent. Young boys always try and change a few things and talk to other people as well."

He was also pleased with what he saw of Ashish Nehra, "Nehra looks better than what he did in Australia. He has got over a couple of niggles and is getting through to the crease better. Hopefully he can now bowl well again.”

Overall, he seemed optimistic about India’s prospects for the near future saying, "They came out of a break after the superb showing in Australia and Pakistan and immediately it is not easy to get back into groove”

More good news came for Indian supporters when the injured Sachin Tendulkar joined his teammates in a practise session, bowling a few legbreaks. The selectors have been confident about his recovery, opting not to choose a replacement.
