Rain Dampens Determined Netherlands
Tuesday, August 31 2004A surprisingly clinical and skilled display of cricket by the Netherlands was dampened by the now characteristic Dutch rain.
Losing the toss, the Netherlands were put into the field as Inzamam had no hesitation in batting first on another slow, low pitch at the VRA Ground in Amstelveen.
With Yasir Hameed resting, Salman Butt and Imran Farhat began the innings for Pakistan. Netherlands got off to a dream start as they had Farhat (1) and Afridi (12) dismissed in the first five overs and the score was 2/23.
Newcomer Salman Butt was very cautious and Inzamam Ul Haq played in typical Inzamam fashion as Pakistan passed the 50 run mark.
But disaster struck for Pakistan as Kloppenburg had Butt out for 19 and after four overs, Inzamam (29) was dismissed as well which left Pakistan in a precarious situation.
It went from bad to worse for Pakistan as Younis Khan bagged a duck as he was bowled by Tim de Leede and de Leede found himself on the verge of an International Hat trick.
Pakistan then slumped to 6/78 as Youhana (9) departed. But some big hitting by Abdul Razzaq and Moin Khan got Pakistan safely past the 100 run mark. As soon as the pair decided to turn on the action the weather took a turn for the worse.
Play was then officially abandoned later on in the afternoon.
Brief Score Summary:
Pakistan: 6/122 (Inzamam 29, Razzaq 24*, Moin 20*, Reekers 2/19, de Leede 2/12)
