Afridi back in Pakistan squad
Sunday, August 8 2004Pakistan have recalled all-rounder Shahid Afridi for next month's ICC Champions Trophy in England, as well as the Videocon Cup in Holland ahead of that. From the team that played in the Asia Cup, opener Imran Nazir and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria have been dropped.
Though Afridi effectively is a replacement for Kaneria, it's very unlikely that the 24-year-old will get to play many games, especially because of the performances put in by the other all-rounder in the squad, Shoaib Malik, during the Asia Cup.
Also included in the 14-member squad is opener Salman Butt, who is yet to make his international One-Day debut, though he has played Test cricket before, against Bangladesh.
Pakistan sqaud:
Inzamam-ul Haq (captain), Yousuf Youhana, Imran Farhat, Salman Butt, Yasir Hameed, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Moin Khan (wicket-keeper), Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Akhtar, Shabbir Ahmed, Rana Naveedul Hassan.
