Rameez resigns as PCB CEO
Saturday, August 7 2004Former Pakistan opener Rameez Raja has resigned from his post as the chief executive officer of the country's cricket board, effective immediately.
Raja cited his media commitments as the only reason for this major decision. He had come in for plenty of criticism for his dual role as a media personality and CEO, especially during the unsuccessful series at home against India.
Currently commentating for Ten Sports in Sri Lanka for the South Africa series, Raja told Cricinfo, "It was time for me to move. I always made it clear to the board that my media career was important to me."
While the popular conception is that Pakistan cricket, Raja went on to say the contrary, "Unlike cricketers, cricket administrators should not be judged only by results on the field. Instead they should be judged by the systems they put in place and the development work they do. In those counts, Pakistan cricket has moved in recent times and I am happy."
Though the doors are open for Raja to return whenever he wishes to, he's clear in his mind that this is the end of administrative stints for him, and media participation is the only way ahead.
