Somerset & Essex win in CC2
Friday, August 6 2004CC2: Comfortable wins for Somerset and Essex
Taunton: Somerset v Glamorgan (Day 3)
Ian Blackwell produced the best bowling figures of his life to set up a comfortable win for the hosts. When Mark Wallace and Matt Elliott almost wiped out the first innings deficit with an opening stand of 126, it seemed that Glamorgan would set a challenging total. Instead, they lost 7 wickets for 76, and only Darren Thomas' blistering half century allowed them to set a target of 163. Early wickets would still have put Somerset under pressure, but an opening stand of 103 from Bowler and Francis made sure they ran out winners.
Glamorgan 262
Elliott 103, Thomas 54, Francis 5 for 42
Somerset 394
Ponting 117, Blackwell 98, S. Jones 5 for 94

Southampton: Hampshire v Essex (Day 3)
A rapid 93 from Jamie Middlebrook enabled Essex to set Hampshire a target of 533 or, more realistically to survive for five sessions. Instead, they capitulated within 33 overs with Ashley Cowan and Andre Adams doing most of the damage. The only resistance came from last man Taylor, but by then it was far too late.
