Surrey hopeful of Harbhajan

Sunday, November 7 2004

English county Surrey is likely to obtain the services of Harbhajan Singh for the 2005 County Season. While the off-spinner has agreed to join the county, the signing has to wait until the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approves.

Harbhajan, if signed, would be a replacement for Pakistan's Saqlain Mushtaq, who missed most of the 2004 season as a result of surgeries on both his knees.

Harbhajan doesn't have previous experience in County cricket. However, he had signed up for Lancashire back in 2003, but failed to play a single game because of a finger injury.

Harbhajan missed most of the current year for India as well, while he was recovering from another finger injury. He returned as good as before though, showing that in the recently completed India-Australia series at home.
