Sriram In Indian Squad

Sunday, November 7 2004

Sridharan Sriram has been selected in India’s squad to take on Pakistan at Kolkota, replacing Rohan Gavaskar.

The left handed Sriram, 28, has been the most consistent Indian domestic cricketer for some while and deserves his recall to the side after a disappointing start to his international career, averaging just 5.25 in his 6 one-day internationals to date.

Sourav Ganguly has been named captain of the side, however, there are still some doubts over wether or not he will play, even though he has reportedly told the BCCI that he is fit. An official desicion will be made after a fitness test on November 10.

Irfan Pathan, who missed the last 2 tests of the Australia series, has also been included in the squad and will play a few one-dayers for domestic team Baroda to prove his fitness.

The one-off match is to be played on November 13, to celebrate the BCCI’s Platinum Jubilee.

India squad: Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly (capt), VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar, Mohammad Kaif, Ashish Nehra, Sridharan Sriram.
