King named as Windies coach
Sunday, October 31 2004Australian Bennett King has been named as the new coach of West Indies, replacing Gus Logie.
King, who successfully coached Australian state side Queensland from 1999/2000 to 2001/2002, takes over from Logie, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent.
The move comes as some sort of a surprise, as after struggling the entire year, West Indies looked to have picked up things under Logie, winning the ICC Champions Trophy in England.
King was in fact offered the job last year, however he had refused because of his commitments to the Australian Cricket Academy.
Meanwhile, Tony Howard, the interim manager, has been made permanent, and Sir Garfield Sobers has been appointed as a technical consultant to the team.
