NSW in control as MacGill takes 4

Thursday, November 11 2004

Stuart MacGill and Brett Lee have put New South Wales in a stong position after day 1 of their 4-day match versus the touring New Zealanders.

The pair took 7 wickets between them, with MacGill in lethal form managing a devastating spell of 3/11 just after tea, finishing the day with figures of 4/57.

Brett Lee sent the Australian selectors a strong message with impressive figures of 3/52. Lee will be looking for re-selection into the Aussie squad and today showed some promising signs of things to come.

Matthew Sinclair was the only New Zealander to provide any sort of resistance, scoring a fighting 88 off 180 balls before he was dismissed by MacGill. After Sinclair’s wicket, the Black Cap’s innings was soon brought to a close on a disappointing 213.

Just before the close of play, James Franklin managed to pick up the wicket of Phil Jaques for 8, leaving NSW on 1/26 at the close of play.

Score Summary: Close of Day 1

New Zealand: 213 all out (Sinclair 88, Macgill 4/57, Lee 3/52)
NSW: 1/26 (Franklin 1/17)
