Jerome Taylor to return for Jamaica

Monday, December 13 2004

Injured pace prospect Jerome Taylor will expectedly return to regional cricket in the 2005 Carib Beer Series. The regional 5D tournament bowls off in January.

Taylor, 20 years-old, has been out of action with a back and groin difficulties for the better part of a year now. He was forced to leave the 2003 tour of Zimbabwe early, but returned to First Class cricket in the 2004 Carib Beer Series, only to fall out again with injury. Jerome Taylor has played 15 FC matches for 41 wickets at 24.60 each, but has only taken 3 wickets in his 3 Test matches to date.

The young pacer is only one of several challenges facing Jamaica heading into the 2005 Series. West Indies pace bowler Jermaine Lawson and prospect Andrew Richardson will not be in the squad due to back injuries, whilst 2004 skipper Gareth Breese may miss a portion of the series due to a groin injury. Further, Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Marlon Samuels and Xavier Marshall are in contention to travel to Australia in representing the West Indies senior team.

One of David Bernard Jr. and Carlton Baugh Jr. is expected to lead the Jamaicans in Breese's absence. The Carib Beer Series starts on January 7th.
