Stuart Law gets British citizenship

Saturday, January 8 2005

Australian-born batsman Stuart Law has been granted British citizenship, thus rendering him a non-overseas player for Lancashire in the coming 2005 English County season.

Law, a veteran of 23,000 first-class runs, has already played nine seasons in England, six with Essex, and the last three at Lancashire.

The citizenship makes Law eligible for national selection in England; however at 36, his chances of making it seem very slim.

Law played only a single Test for Australia, the same game in which Ricky Ponting made his debut, in which he scored an unbeaten half century. He also appeared in 54 ODIs, however didn't live up to his potential in that form of the game.
