Mark Boucher recalled
Saturday, January 8 2005Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, Mark Boucher has been recalled to the South African squad. Boucher, dropped since August of last year, had his streak of 74 consecutive Test matches broken as the South African selectors made the choice for Thami Tsolekile instead on the tour of India in November of 2004.
Tsolekile has since been dropped in favour of AB de Villiers with the gloves. Now de Villiers is expected to move up to his preferred opening position, so as to accommodate an out-of-form Herschelle Gibbs down the order. To allow the move, Boucher would take over the 'keeping duties.
Boucher has played 76 Tests in total, scoring 2782 runs at 30.91 with 290 dismissals (277 caught, 13 stumped).
Remaining in the squad of 14 is Charl Langeveldt. The seamer debuted impressively in the last Test, despite a broken left hand and is expected to participate in the remainder of the series.
South Africa 4th and 5th Tests squad:
GC Smith (C), MV Boucher (wk), HH Gibbs, AB de Villiers, JA Rudolph, JH Kallis, HH Dippenaar, HM Amla, SM Pollock, AJ Hall, N Boje, M Ntini, DW Steyn, CK Langeveldt.
