Chappell assaulted by fan
Zac Gelman |Indian coach Greg Chappell has been hit by a cricket fan at Bhubaneshwar airport in India.
The incident comes just a day after India pulled off a stunning victory over the West Indies in Nagpur.
BCCI vice-president, Rajiv Shukla, confirmed the Australian was not hurt, but raised concerns over the team security.
“My information is that Greg has not been hurt but this is a serious security lapse on part of the Orissa police,” he said.
“We have demanded that the state government increase security for the two teams.”
Police were called in to investigate the situation and a local man, Biranchi Maharana, was arrested soon after.
Maharana was part of a protest that greeted the Indian team at the airport to demonstrate the fact that no players from Orissa had been included in the Indian squad.
“I am angry with Chappell because no player from Orissa has been included in the national team,” he shouted to bystanders as he was taken away by the authorities.
India play the West Indies in Cuttack on Wednesday, the second ODI of the four match series.
