Jayasuriya bows out with injury

For his service to Sri Lankan cricket, Sanath Jayasuriya deserved better. His career has ended in the most unfortunate manner, however, as injury has marred his final Test match.

Jayasuriya will not bat in the second innings of the current second Test match against Pakistan, after dislocating his right thumb. The opener also split his webbing whilst attempting to take a catch off Imran Farhat in the gully.

The Sri Lankan team’s physiotherapist stated that Jayasuriya is unlikely to take any further part in the Test match.

Sanath Jayasuriya represented Sri Lanka in 101 Tests, scoring 6613 runs at an average of 41.76. Of his 14 hundreds, his highest score is a national record of 340 against India. Jayasuriya also took 92 Test wickets at 33.18 apiece, bowling clever left-arm spin.

He will continue to play one-day internationals in the buildup to next year’s World Cup in the West Indies.
